METT Singapore
Simply Magnetic
To mark the launch of METT Singapore, we brought the "Simply Magnetic" allure of the iconic Fort Canning property to life through a charming, unexpected journey. The film follows two unlikely protagonists—a sunbed and a pool umbrella—as they navigate the streets of Singapore and the lush greenery of Fort Canning Park, eventually finding their way home to the hotel’s poolside.
"In a world where advertising delves into inauthentic scenarios and CGI, we wanted to create a real moment. That meant tapping into creativity that was magnetic, memorable, and effortlessly METT."

The Craft
Human-Powered Technology
A core pillar of this project was the commitment to authenticity and real-world charm. Senior Producer Joshua Tan described our approach as "doubling down on classic human-powered technological craft."
Build
We rejected CGI and AI in favor of 100% practical execution. We custom-built motorized chassis for the furniture, which were physically navigated through the city and the hotel’s heritage corridors by "pilots" using remote control units.

Logistical Puzzle
As Director, the challenge was both creative and logistical. We had to measure every corner and corridor of the colonial building to ensure our heavy, motorized "characters" could fit. The production was a constant balance between crafting a whimsical narrative and managing the laborious task of moving massive props through public spaces and the hotel.

Embracing the "Wobble"
Shooting practically gave the props an unexpected shake as they traveled over tiled paths. While initially a concern, we realized this "wobble" gave the furniture a comical, living personality. I leaned into this during the edit, selecting the most charming, "human" movements to make the objects feel truly curious rather than just mechanical.

A Language of Movement
Since the film relies entirely on visual storytelling without dialogue, I established a strict directional logic to guide the viewer.
The Journey
To establish the sense of "magnetism," I used consistent directional cues—moving the duo from Left to Right or toward the lens. This created a forward momentum toward their destination.

The Exploration
Once inside the hotel, the umbrella and sunbed break apart and move in opposite directions. This visual contrast highlights their individual personalities as they explore the heritage architecture.

The Reunion
The movements converge finally at the pool, completing the narrative arc.
